I write young adult and short fiction as well as personal essays. Roly-Poly Girls is my first completed young adult novel. During the many years it took to complete (I lost track), it has had a million iterations and story lines, but always the same characters. What kept me writing was how much I loved these complicated, ridiculous, heart-driven sisters, and how important my own sisters have been to me.
My stories have appeared in American Short Fiction, Glimmer Train, and American Way; I won the Glimmer Train Open Fiction Contest and was named a Best American Short Stories notable.

We moved every few years because our father was in the Air Force, but I have spent most of my adult life in Austin, Texas. I live with my husband and an aging orange dog, and try to live by the adage of my car bumper-sticker: Be kind. We’re all idiots.
